A question about flying over the Antarctic on a passenger plane?

If I was to fly from CapeTown, South Africa, to Auckland, New Zealand, could I fly over the Antarctic or would I have to go around it? Why?

Please see the following maps:

Cape Town, South Africa:http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=64762%26amp;re...

Auckland, New Zealand: http://www.hirecar.co.nz/images/sect-nz-...

If you know of an article or document dealing with this, could you please give me the link?

All help with this would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a globe, please use it!

Thank you so much in advance.

No, because the only available flights to New Zealand are via. Perth and Sydney, thus you will not fly over the antartic.

Your routing will be JNB-SYD via. PER and from SYD connecting to CHC/AKL
