Suppose you are given three maps, A, B, C (each 17.5 inches long by 13.5 inches wide). Map A has a scale of 62,500: map B a scale of 125,000; and map C a scale of 250,000.
How much area is shown on C compared to that shown on B?
How much area is shown on C compared to that shown on A/?
Geology Question MATH. Please Help.?
Make A, B and C denominators. Calculate for common denominators and the numerator will be your ratio.
250k/62.5k=4
Reply:The guy forgot to square his answer to account for area instead of the linear distance ratio. If you double the scale ratio you increase the covered area by 4.
