Why NEW YORKERS call kilometers miles?

one day i was driving in NEW JERSEY,and i asked this guy from this gas station to help me to get the shortest road to N.Y.C

he showed me this map saying one roads was 55 miles and the other road he point out.was 50 miles.,so i took the 50 miles road and when i got to N.Y.C i was driven only 32 miles.

the samething happens from my neighborhood everybody says is 10 miles to central park.

when is only 6 miles

Why NEW YORKERS call kilometers miles?
Be glad you're not trying to find the Brooklyn post office. When you ask for directions the standard answer is "you can't get there from here."
Reply:Is it possible they're telling you how many minutes it takes instead of how many miles it is? I know where I'm from (Chicago) because of the traffic, we usually talk about things being 20 minutes away instead of 20 miles because in traffic 20 miles could take you 45 minutes to travel. Report It

Reply:it is a secret plot from cab drivers who are paid by the mile. obviously.
