There is only 1 county & that is county durham?

look on any map %26amp; you will c only 1county named,county durham the rest are eg yorkshire,essex sussex but no county essex.

Reply:In England and Scotland, it is the only one nowadays and you are perfectly correct. It is the only one that has County in front of a town name, though, according to Wikipedia, Cheshire used to be called "County of Chester", Hampshire "County of Southhampton" and Shropshire "County of Salop".

Reply:County Down - and don't forget, they only call it County Durham (a proud person would have used capitals....) so that the people in it don't forget. Otherwise they'd all think they were Geordies.......
